Welcome
On the far northeastern edge of Namibia, where the Okavango River winds through deep sand and thick woodland, lies the Buffalo Core Area of Bwabwata National Park – one of the wildest, least disturbed corners of the country. For decades this land has been overlooked: hard to reach, rugged to traverse, yet home to some of Africa’s most iconic and threatened species. Elephant herds migrate across its sandy tracks, sable and roan antelope vanish into the shadows of the teak forests, and the African buffalo – powerful, watchful, unyielding – reigns as the symbol of its untamed spirit.
It is here that a group of passionate Namibians have come together to create the Buffalo Private Collection: a pioneering lodge venture rooted in both conservation and community. Their vision is to breathe new life into this neglected park, to bring a presence that will protect, not disturb; to invite travellers who value wilderness at its rawest to share in the privilege of experiencing it.

Our Purpose
At the heart of the Buffalo Private Collection lies a partnership with the Khwe San community – the original custodians of the Caprivi woodlands. For centuries, the San have lived in harmony with this landscape, their deep indigenous knowledge guiding them through every spoor in the sand, every call in the night, and every plant that heals or sustains. They are among the world’s finest naturalists and trackers, conserving the environment not by mandate, but by instinct and tradition. Today, this partnership forms the foundation of a new kind of tourism – one that respects and uplifts. Together, we are building a model rooted in empowerment, where communities share in ownership and benefit directly from conservation.
The purpose of the Buffalo Private Collection is to:
Safeguard wildlife by creating a tourism presence that deters poaching through human presence.
Provide sustainable livelihoods for local communities through joint venture ownership.
Honour the buffalo as a symbol of resilience – representing strength, endurance, and the spirit of wilderness.
